Vietnam Days 24-27: Tailor-Making a Goodbye

One of the top things to do in Hoi An is get clothes custom made. Every third storefront is a tailoring business and there is no shortage of creativity, fabric, and designs. We chose BeBe Tailor, which is extremely reputable, as well as huge! It is most known for its formal wear, along with its strong English-speaking employees and quick turnaround time.

If you're going to do this in Hoi An, it's really helpful to have a design in mind. Erin went in wanting to get three pieces made: a black lace dress, a formal one-shoulder jumpsuit, and a casual jumpsuit. Craig decided to get a shirt, and Adventure Girl wanted to get a dress.

They first walked us through the process, looked at the pictures we'd brought for inspiration, and did a quick sketch of each of our designs. They told us the price and it was more than we had hoped, so Erin dropped a jumpsuit. It was cool to see our designs come together so quickly before our eyes!

The next step was to choose fabrics and colours. Then, they took very detailed measurements of each of us.

We were given a time and told to come back two days later for the first fitting. In all, we did three fittings.

At the fittings, we learned quickly that you had to be careful what you said. Erin didn't love the sleeves on her dress and within moments, a team of two designers had taken them off, while she was still wearing it! They helped adjust the fit and length, and they consulted with us on different aspects of the clothes.

It was a really fun process and experience, and we came home with some great souvenirs! Everything was done just in time for us to wear our fancy new outfits out for a last meal together to celebrate the end of a great trip!

Thanks, Vietnam! We loved the people, the incredibly beautiful and diverse landscapes, and the food! What a trip!
